Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists treat children when they are experiencing challenges with visual motor, visual perceptual, fine motor, sensory motor, and self-regulation skills. All treatment is aimed to improve a child’s ability to successfully navigate their environment, academics, and self-care skills.

Is it Sensory or is it behavioral?

At MindCentric, we get this question very often. Since we are a multidisciplinary team, we can very quickly determine what is driving your child’s response to the world around him/her. With accurate determination, an appropriate intervention can be put in place.

Handwriting:

Many times what looks like handwriting challenges is really much more than fine motor weakness. Through our multidisciplinary foundation, we are quickly able to identify areas of challenge and intervene with tailored intervention.

For our children with graphomotor weakness, we offer Little Scribblers program. In this small group setting, children will participate in fun and engaging fine motor play while incorporating the skills that underly writing.

Whenever a child who has handwriting problems is presented to us, we have to assess their functioning level in these areas:

  • Fine Motor Skills
  • Visual Motor/Perceptual Integration
  • Cognition
  • Sensory Motor Integration
  • Upper body Strength
